Munchi Pancakes opening at AMK Hub: Review

Min jiang kueh fans rejoice! Another outlet has opened, this time at the heartlands of Singapore - Ang Mo Kio. Situated conveniently in AMK Hub (Directory), a short 5 minutes walk away from the MRT, you can find the stall at Level 1, where the bus interchange is. A great snack while you are waiting for the bus!

The brand offers both the traditional flavours and also add a modern twist by introducing flavours such as Biscoff filling or Green Tea-flavoured skin. They also offer pancakes packed with interesting flavours such as Oreo Cheese, Bandung Cheese, and Earl Grey. View their full menu here.

There were a few people in the queue when I was there on a Saturday evening. However, the queue moved quickly so I managed to get my cravings satisfied within 10 minutes. I got the Green Tea with Peanut filling ($1.80), Original with Biscoff filling ($2.60) and Original with Black Sesame filling ($2.20).

All of them were pretty good but my favourite will definitely be the classic peanut filling. The pancake was thick and the filling was chunky and not too sweet. I was lucky that the employee put out a new one when it was my turn so my piece was served hot. The Black Sesame was good as well, with a rich nutty taste and you can also see whole black sesame seeds within the paste. Personally, I find the level of sweetness to be just right too.

I was excited for the Biscoff filling as I am a fan of the cookie butter. However, the ratio of filling to dough was slightly off for this one so the taste of the dough is stronger. Although this may just be an issue for my piece since the fillings for the other two flavours were generous (as you can see from the picture).

I was given the edge piece for the Biscoff piece, which makes it slightly better as the edges were crispy so it adds a nice contrast to the dough. I recommend you ask the employee for the edge piece if you enjoy the crispy edges!

They also serve pancakes with filings other than the traditional kind. These pancakes have more options for fillings. I ordered the Belgian Chocolate and Oreo Cheese to try. Unfortunately, due to the crowd, there was a waiting time of 30 minutes for the pancakes so I took this chance to browse the shops before returning.

I thought the fillings were left out at room temperature so I was surprised when I touched the slightly cold pancakes. The fillings really reminded me of cakes (Belgian Chocolate -> rich chocolate mousse, Oreo Cream cheese -> Oreo Cheesecake) so I really enjoyed them. Would I wait 30 minutes again? Maybe not, but if the queue is shorter I would like to try the other flavours they offer!
